FAQs About Dulbecco’s Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS)
What is DPBS?
Dulbecco’s Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS) is intended for use in the maintenance of mammalian cells where a chemically defined, balanced salt solution provides an environment that will maintain the structural and physiological integrity of cells in vitro.
What Are Common DPBS Modification Options (Additives and Concentrations)?
Dulbecco’s Phosphate Buffer Solution is manufactured using inorganic salts and deionized water and can be amended with phenol red (for pH indication) or glucose.
DPBS from Biologos is available with or without calcium and magnesium, as well as, custom formulations and custom pH levels.
What Is the Process of DPBS?
DPBS can be used to maintain a consistent pH in chemical and biological applications. It may also be used as a transport solution or diluent.
Why Do We Use DPBS in Cell Culture?
DPBS is used to maintain cells in a consistent PH so that do not expand or contract. Within tissue processing specifically, it can be used to clean cells, or used in combination with other products to preserve cells that are grown or harvested from a donor.
Does DPBS Follow Any Regulations or Standards?
All Biologos DPBS is manufactured in an ISO13485 and GMP certified environment.
What Are the Uses for DPBS?
DPBS is mostly commonly used as buffer solution in biological and chemical applications, but can be formulated with additives for use in other applications, such as:
- A diluent for concentrated substances
- A rinsing agent, for containers with cells
- Separating clumped cells (PBS with EDTA)
The product is intended to be used in vitro, in laboratory only. Do not use it in therapy, human or veterinary applications.
How Do You Store and Transport DPBS?
The DPBS is supplied in gamma irradiated, sterile PETG or PETE bottles. We recommend that the DPBS should be at ambient temperatures. Always use aseptic techniques when handling DPBS.
The DPBS is shipped ambient by less than truck-load carrier or overnight, as needed.
How Do You Handle DPBS? Is It Safe?
When handling all biological products, it is a best practice to use industrial hygiene standards and aseptic handling techniques. If ingested, inhaled or in contact with skin, DPBS can cause tissue irritation.
