About Dulbecco's Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS)

What is DPBS?

Dulbecco’s Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS) is intended for use in the maintenance of mammalian cells where a chemically defined, balanced salt solution provides an environment that will maintain the structural and physiological integrity of cells in vitro.

DPBS Uses

DPBS is mostly commonly used as buffer solution in biological and chemical applications, but can be formulated with additives for use in other applications, such as:.

  • A diluent for concentrated substances
  • A rinsing agent, for containers with cells
  • Separating clumped cells (PBS with EDTA)

The product is intended to be used in vitro, in laboratory only. Do not use it in therapy, human or veterinary applications.

DPBS Storage and Handling

The DPBS is supplied in gamma irradiated, sterile PETG or PETE bottles. We recommend that the DPBS should be at ambient temperatures. Always use aseptic techniques when handling DPBS.

The DPBS is shipped ambient by less than truck-load carrier or overnight, as needed.

DPBS Composition

Basic Dulbecco’s Phosphate Buffered Saline, or DPBS consists of: sodium chloride and disodium hydrogen phosphate. Common additives are potassium chloride or potassium phosphate. Formulations containing calcium and magnesium may restrain the function of trypsin in applications.

What is the Difference Between DPBS and PBS?

DPBS and PBS can often be used interchangeably because they provide the same functions and have similar composition; however, DPBS has a lower concentration of phosphate.
